Safety Mojo (App)Safety Mojo is an AI-powered safety management platform built for construction and oil & gas. The product unifies risk visibility, compliance workflows, and frontline data collection into a single system that scales across projects, trades, and crews. It serves general contractors, specialty trades, owners, and oilfield service companies with features including voice-powered forms, AI document scanning, real-time dashboards, contractor scorecards, and a multilingual safety knowledge base. I led the design and product organizations responsible for the platform's end-to-end experience.
Problem Statement
Safety management in construction and energy is fragmented by nature. Every subcontractor brings their own forms, processes, and levels of compliance. Superintendents and safety managers were operating across disconnected systems, paper forms, spreadsheets, and siloed apps with no unified view of what was actually happening across their projects. Frontline workers, many of whom speak different languages and have varying levels of technical comfort, treated safety documentation as an administrative burden rather than a meaningful part of their day. The result was inconsistent data, blind spots around high-risk work, and a reactive posture where incidents revealed problems that should have been caught upstream. The challenge was designing a platform that could standardize safety outcomes without standardizing the workflows people were already comfortable with.
The Approach
We designed the platform frontline-first. Every feature was built around how crews actually work in the field, not how safety managers wished they worked. Voice-powered conversational forms let workers speak naturally in English or Spanish instead of filling out rigid checklists. Flex PTP lets subcontractors keep their own paper forms and simply photograph them, while AI handles extraction, scoring, and standardization behind the scenes. We built real-time dashboards that give superintendents a morning snapshot of submitted PTPs, pending permits, overdue actions, and risk levels across every site. Contractor scorecards surface performance patterns over time so decisions about subcontractor management are driven by data, not gut feel. And Ask Mojo puts an organization's entire safety library into every worker's pocket, answering questions instantly from actual company documents rather than generic internet results. Throughout, the design challenge was reducing cognitive load for the end user while increasing data density for the decision maker.
The Outcome
The platform is trusted by leading general contractors and trades managing billions in projects nationwide, including partners like HITT, Mortenson, Prologis, and United Rentals. Client results speak to the design's effectiveness: one partner saved over $1,700 per employee, another lowered their experience modification rate by 14% across 19 subsidiaries, and another achieved 82% frontline engagement in their first year. The platform was named a Best of 2025 Top 10 Innovator by Darcy Partners. Safety Mojo proved that when you design for the people doing the work, adoption follows and outcomes improve.
